Biography

Born in Gelsenkirchen on December 21, 1985, Markus “Marcito” Ostfeld got his first drumkit at the age of three. A few years later he joined his father’s rock band. After a while as a self-taught musician, Marcito studied drums and percussion at the Drummers Institute Düsseldorf and with Ruy Lopez-Nussa in Havana, Cuba. He also took masterclasses with Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez, Giovanni Hidalgo, Phil Maturano or Simon Phillips. 

Over the years Markus Ostfeld played with bands and artists like Alexander Abreu (Havana D’ Primera), Richie Flores, Salsa Picante, Trio La Sonera, Eurolatina, Cuba Caliente, Ney Portales, Timbalemán, Latin Jazz Mafia, Nelson Müller, Carmen Brown, Dennis Hormes, Dickes B., Irvin Doomes (James Brown), Spax, Manumatei, Dr Luv, Jürgen Drews, Alien Café, Tonspur and many more…. 

Furthermore Marcito teaches drums and percussion since the age of sixteen. He gives privat lessons, works for different music schools and was an university lecturer for “Latin Drums and Percussion” at the Rock Pop Jazz Academy Mittelhessen. Markus Ostfeld is a popular clinican and workshop docent who gets invited to play on international drum festivals. He is an endorsee for Adoro Drums, Anatolian Cymbals, De Gregorio Cajones, Rohema Percussion, Reiche Trommelbau, Hands On Drums, CAD Microphones, Alpine Hearsafe and Sky Gel Damper Pads. Marcito is well known for his latin / flamenco, jazz and funk drumming, but also as a complete musician in nearly every style of music. He is currently touring with international bands and artists like Juan Munguía (Irakere), Francelet-Moser, Richard Pizzorno (Quincy Jones), EvaZZion, Volver, Gianni Trinchera, Marcus Moser Latin Spirit, MARS Saibert (Unter Uns), Marcito & Matthias, Pillow Talk, Cafecíto, Urban Funk Orchestra, Marcito’s Funk Allstars, Wrecia Ford, MUE, Groove Elation or Willi Meyer & Friends. Markus Ostfeld is the leader of his own latin jazz trio (Marcito Ostfeld Trio) and followed Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez as the drummer of Stefan Glass.
